Which movie did you watch today and how would you rate it?

Spring rains in Summer is doing my head in. Watched Malcolm (1986) just now. Some comedies don't stand the test of time. This one does.

Automobile Dealerships Trying to Sell Unneeded Products and Service

I had a mechanic present me with a set of destroyed distributor leads (This was a long time ago, I'm old, and I was young then) that I knew didn't come from my car. I didn't know how to defend myself, so I just paid the exorbitent invoice and never went back. But I knew that with the leads he...

What TV are you watching and how would you rate it? [Revive from FRDB]

I really like the original, British, version of Ghosts. US remakes often miss it, for me, but this one adds enough value to be very good in its own right. They made an Aussie version and now I'm sad.

Which movie did you watch today and how would you rate it?

It rained for a good part of today. Red Dog. One of my favourites. You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll understand how a dog can clear a room. Kept raining, watched the prequel. Red Dog, True Blue. Hadn't seen it before but enjoyed it immensely.

Which movie did you watch today and how would you rate it?

Firstly, scrolling down on the first page I was a bit saddened to see how many old regulars aren't posting here any more. Secondly, I avoided watching Cats on stage or screen for decades. Yesterday it rained and I thought I would give it a bash. Trust your first instincts, people. Thirdly...

    Joke gallery

My wife told me to take the spider out instead of killing him. Went out. Had a few drinks. Nice guy. He's a web designer.

Famous Movie Lines for The Wrong Movie

Which movie did you watch today and how would you rate it?

Saw The Holdovers last night. Very much in the tradition of Dead poet's Society and Mr Holland's Opus, though I felt the characters were better written and the message ultimately more positive and less melodramatic. I knew nothing about it, and assumed it had been made earlier than 2023, pre...

    What are you reading?

Thanks for the tip. I'll be reading that, at some point.

    What are you reading?

Just finished Juice. Well worth the read. Right up to the final paragraph.

    What are you reading?

I suspect that Heinlein appeals because his pages are the first place you encounter some concepts as a young reader. That is certainly true for me. 50 years later my (our?) ideas are more nuanced. That said, the minute my friend returns The Moon Is A Harsh Mistress I intend to reread it. I...

    What are you reading?

I have just started Tim Winton's Juice. Nine pages in it bodes well for being a VERY good book.

I'd be interested to know about those scenarios. And if you can, as I said before, I would love to hear how taking that life in those circumstances could possibly advance your wish to die One that your argument brought to me was someone who prevents a bridge jumping. You end his life for the...

Nah, if you have the capacity to kill someone, and you want to die ... do I have to spell it out?

    Things that make you laugh...

Yeah, we don't do any of that here. Pumpkins are for roasting. :) With lamb, or beef or chicken or pork, and potato and parsnip. Damn! It's 5 days 'til Sunday and I want Sunday lunch NOW. :D Pi.

    Things that make you laugh...

Is that a pumpkin pie? I've heard of them but never seen one.

I realise you are making a highly theoretical argument but it is a false equivalency. In practical terms, killing the politician who opposes legislation, the doctor who won't give you extra morphine or the loved one who won't do what you need them to do, in order to die, doesn't advance your aim...
